Overcoming Extreme Humidity in Baja California: How NetPoint Replaced a Starlink Farm with a 75.1 km High-Performance Link

The real issue here was not RF noise or local interference, but rather the sheer isolation of the area and the struggle to deliver consistent, high-quality connectivity under hostile weather conditions.

In the remote region of Vizcaíno, Baja California Sur, a local WISP was up against a massive operational challenge. Extreme humidity levels hovering around 90% were completely knocking out traditional wireless links across both the 5 GHz and 6 GHz bands. The real issue here was not RF noise or local interference, but rather the sheer isolation of the area and the struggle to deliver consistent, high-quality connectivity under hostile weather conditions.

Before making the switch, lead engineer Aaron was stuck with extremely limited bandwidth, maxing out at 125 Mbps during the day and plunging down to 80 Mbps at night. In pure desperation, he started buying up Starlink terminals like there was no tomorrow. But as many in the industry quickly learned, Elon’s platform does not appreciate heavy users, and it was not long before their consumption got throttled.

Finding a sustainable solution was no walk in the park, but the turning point came with proper RF engineering using NetPoint Pathwave software to design a 75.1 km long-distance backhaul.

While the initial software simulation predicted a respectable signal level of -51 dBm, hands-on alignment in the field delivered an extraordinary -46 dBm RSSI. A huge reason for this success was the NetPoint NPX6-SHP-4FT dish antenna, equipped with ultra-fine precision mounting hardware for tilt and azimuth adjustments that allowed the team to pinpoint the main beam lobe with extreme accuracy.

The project was spearheaded by Luis David Alvarez Vazquez as the Lead RF Specialist, working side-by-side with Joan Bou from JB Network, who handled the complete restructuring of the network infrastructure. Joan integrated the new 75 km link into the existing setup using MikroTik routing hardware, leveraging his official NetPoint validation as an expert in wireless engineering, MikroTik network management, and UniFi deployments.
